Canonical URL

A canonical URL is the version of a page you declare authoritative when duplicates or near-duplicates exist — tracking-parameter variants, www and non-www, print versions. Declared via a rel=canonical link element, HTTP header, or sitemap inclusion, it consolidates ranking signals onto one URL. Google treats the declaration as a strong hint, not a command, and will pick its own canonical if signals disagree.
